Tips To Clear SSC – JE in your First Attempt!!

What is SSC -JE?

SSC JE is a prestigious National Level Examination conducted by staff selection commission of India for the recruitment of suitable candidates for the post of JE(Civil), JE(Electrical and Mechanical) in various Central Govt departments like CPWD , CWC , BRO , MES , CWPRS , FARAKKA BARRAGE PROJECT, NTRO etc..

Why SSC JE?

Once you qualify SSC JE , you will be recruited to a Group-B(Non Gazetted) Post in Government of India with a pay scale of Rs.35400 to Rs.112400. What are the Minimum Qualifications required?

For the Post of JE(Civil) A candidate requires either Diploma or B.Tech in Civil Engineering. But for Diploma candidates experience in the trade is required for getting recommended to the post of JE in Border Roads Organisation.

How is the selection procedure?

SSC JE is conducted in 3 Stages

  • First :Preliminary Examinations
  • Second:Mains Examination
  • Last: Document Verification

In First stage an objective type of examination is conducted in which 200 MCQs will be asked out of which 50 belong to quantitative aptitude, other 50 belong to General Knowledge and remaining 100 questions from respective branches (civil for JE(Civil) posts).

In case of Civil Engineering By analysis previous trends a Cut off in between 120-130 marks can be expected for the general category students to qualify prelims .

Students Qualifying the first stage will be called for the second stage which is purely descriptive in nature. Candidates are asked to answer a 300 marks subjective paper and time allotted is 2 hrs only. Questions will cover almost all subjects in Civil Engineering. Candidates are allowed to use non programmable calculators.

After the second stage those who clear the minimum cut off prescribed by SSC will be called for verifying their Documents and giving their preferences for different posts. Document verification is conducted in the respective regional headquarters of SSC. Once document verification is over SSC will prepare the final result and will publish it within one or two months. 

 

How To Prepare For SSC JE?

Prelims

In prelims along with Civil engineering you need to work hard to improve your knowledge and skills in solving General knowledge and quantitative aptitude problems. Because even one mark is precious to get qualified. Previous year questions are very important as far as ssc JE is concerned. Along with pyqs students must do mock tests as much as possible along with preparation. For general knowledge Lucent’s General knowledge book is recommended and practice quantitative aptitude problems daily and increase your problem solving speed. Make a habit of reading newspapers like ( The Hindu )daily. That will help you to cover current affairs portions. General Science and Social studies can be prepared by the help of NCERT textbooks of high school level.

Mains 

Mains examination is descriptive in nature where students have to solve a 300 marks paper in 2 hours. In mains candidates are generally asked to design different structural components, draw SFD-BMD diagrams of beams and frames , Solve different types of problems from almost all subjects in civil engineering. Attempting all question in 2 hours is a big challenge and to tackle that you must practice as much as you can. Try to do previous year ssc je conventional questions at least 2 or 3 times. Many times the same questions asked in the previous years are repeated. Along with that join some test series. So that you will get accustomed to the exam pattern. Previous year ESE conventional questions (1995-2010) will also help candidates a lot in their mains examination.
