RRB JE stands for Railway Recruitment Board Junior Engineer. The RRB conducts exams to recruit candidates with science and engineering backgrounds for various technical posts available in the Indian Railways. These posts include Junior Engineer, Junior Engineer (IT), Depot Material Superintendent (DMS), and Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant (CMA).

RRB JE Civil Job Profile

The RRB JE (Railway Recruitment Board Junior Engineer) job profile in civil engineering offers five types of designations based on the field of work. Each designation comes with its specific responsibilities and scope of work:

(i) RRB JE (Works):

– Works as a Supervisor in the Civil Engineering Department.

– Also known as Inspector of Works.

– In charge of the construction and maintenance of Railway buildings, staff quarters, water supply to these buildings, and addressing encroachments on Railway land within a specific jurisdiction of approximately 50-60 km of Railway Track.

(ii) RRB JE (Permanent Way):

– Works as a supervisor in the Civil Engineering (Permanent Way) department of Railways.

– Also called the Open line in Indian Railways.

– In charge of a section of track, approximately 50-60 km in length, spanning over a couple of stations.

– Responsible for ensuring the track’s proper maintenance to facilitate smooth, safe, and efficient train movement.

– Handles accounting and periodical verifications of stores and tools within their jurisdiction.

(iii) RRB JE (Bridge):

– Responsible for the maintenance of bridges within the Railway Division.

– Oversees bridge workshops and bridge construction projects.

(iv) RRB JE (Drawing, Design & Estimation):

– Responsible for preparing drawings, estimating quantities, and creating work estimates for civil engineering projects.

(v) RRB JE (Track Machine):

– Works with a Track Machine, a specialised piece of equipment used for track maintenance and construction.

– Responsible for operating and maintaining the Track Machine, along with coordinating with technicians.

These designations offer diverse opportunities for civil engineers to contribute to the development, maintenance, and improvement of railway infrastructure, including tracks, bridges, buildings, and other vital components of the railway network. Class B (Population between 5 lakhs to 50 lakhs):

  • Basic Pay: INR 13,500
  • House Rent Allowance: 20% of Basic Pay (INR 2,700)
  • Other Allowances: INR 4,000
  • Dearness Allowances: INR 16,875
  • Salary In Hand: INR 37,075
  • Deduction (Approx): INR 2,000
  • Total Pay: INR 35,075

Class C (Population < 5 lakhs):

  • Basic Pay: INR 13,500
  • House Rent Allowance: 10% of Basic Pay (INR 1,350)
  • Other Allowances: INR 4,000
  • Dearness Allowances: INR 16,875
  • Salary In Hand: INR 35,725
  • Deduction (Approx): INR 2,000
  • Total Pay: INR 33,725

After the 7th Pay Commission, the revised salary structure for RRB JE is as follows:

  • Pay Band (VII CPC): INR 37,200 – 1,39,200
  • Grade Pay (VII CPC): INR 19,200
  • On Selection/Promotion, Entry Pay: INR 72,600
