RRB JE EXAM PATTERN 2023
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts the Junior Engineer (JE) exam for various technical positions. The RRB JE 2023 exam pattern is expected to include four stages which the candidates need to successfully crack to get their dream job.
- Stage 1 – Computer Based Test (CBT) – First Stage CBT:
- The first stage CBT is common for all the candidates and is used for shortlisting.
- The test comprises multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
- The subjects included are General Awareness, Mathematics, General Intelligence, and Reasoning, and General Science.
- The total number of questions and time duration may vary each year, but it is usually around 100 questions to be answered in 90 minutes.
- There is a negative marking, with 1/3rd marks deducted for each incorrect answer.
- Stage 2 – Computer Based Test (CBT) – Second Stage CBT:
- The candidates who qualify in the first stage CBT are eligible to appear for the second stage CBT.
- This stage also consists of MCQs, and the subjects tested are usually the same as in the first stage.
- The total number of questions and time duration may vary each year.
- Similar to Stage 1, there is a negative marking of 1/3rd marks for each incorrect answer.
- Stage 3 – Document Verification:
- Candidates who qualify in the second stage CBT are called for document verification.
- During this stage, candidates’ documents and eligibility are verified.
- Medical Examination:
- After the document verification, candidates are required to undergo a medical examination to ensure they meet the medical standards required for the job.
The expected minimum passing marks (percentage) for each category is given below: General category candidates shall have to score around 40% (40 marks) for qualifying to Stage 2. OBC & SC candidates shall have to score at least 30% (30 marks) in Stage 1 for qualifying to Stage 2.

The RRB JE CE Recruitment Exam 2023 is a two-stage test, with the first being a computer-based test (CBT). The maximum mark of an exam is 100. Each question is of one mark, and the time limit is 90 minutes (120 minutes for qualifying PwBD applicants accompanied by a Scribe).
