The Atal Setu Bridge:

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is now officially open for public commute, marking a significant milestone in the city’s transportation landscape. Also referred to as the Atal Setu Bridge, it spans an impressive 21.8 kilometres, with a staggering 16.5 kilometres of it traversing over the Arabian Sea. This six-lane trans-harbour bridge is set to facilitate the movement of more than 70,000 vehicles daily, providing a crucial link between the Sewri and Nhava Sheva areas.

Construction Marvel

Behind the grandeur of the Atal Setu Bridge lies an impressive story of hard work, dedication, and meticulous planning. The project employed approximately 17,000 labourers and 1,500 engineers, showcasing the collaborative effort that went into bringing this vision to life. The bridge not only connects physical locations but also serves as a bridge between employment opportunities, with the construction phase creating jobs in the transport and construction industries.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the importance of the Atal Setu Bridge in enhancing the ease of mobility for citizens. Describing it as a testament to India’s infrastructural prowess, he emphasised the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s transport infrastructure. The bridge is set to play a pivotal role in reducing travel time, easing congestion, and fostering economic development in the region.

In conjunction with the inauguration, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects in Navi Mumbai, collectively valued at more than ₹12,700 crore. These projects span various sectors, including road and rail connectivity, drinking water, gems and jewellery, and women empowerment. This comprehensive approach reflects the government’s dedication to holistic development and improving the overall quality of life for citizens.

The Atal Setu Bridge is more than just a connection between two points; it symbolises progress, resilience, and the collective effort of thousands who worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality.
