Kerala PSC has decided to issue notification for the recruitment of Assistant Engineers(Civil) to  Harbour Engineering department which is one the finest engineering wing under  Kerala Government.

The Harbour Engineering department was formed in 1982 as a service department to the Fisheries and Ports department. Main duties of this wing is to plan , investigate , execute and monitor various projects and works in the coastal regions of Kerala.

The department consists of 65 Assistant Engineer (civil) posts and soon recruitment is going to happen to the vacant posts. Civil Engineering candidates were keenly looking for its notification since the last rank list of assistant engineers got exhausted.

Who all can apply for this post?

All civil engineering graduates of maximum 40 years of age (OC) can apply for these posts. B.Tech/BE in civil Engineering is mandatory else the candidate must possess an equivalent or higher qualification.

Appropriate age relaxation to students eligible for reservation categories as per relevant GOs.

Salary Package?

The recruited Assistant Engineers will be eligible for a basic pay of Rs:55,200-1,15,300. AE(Civil) in Harbour dept is a group B Gazetted post. Selected candidates will be on a probation period of minimum 2 years.

What is the status of Vacancy?

From the last rank list a total number of 25 advices were sent to the eligible candidates.

A vacancy similar to that of the past can be expected this time (exact number of vacancies is subject to the coming number of retirements and promotion).

How is the Selection Procedure?

After the submission of application Kerala PSC will announce the date of examination. Examination can be expected within 6 months from the last date of application. A 1 1⁄2 hour 100 MCQs based examination which is of purely technical subjects in nature will be conducted. Commision will then decide the cut off marks and those who got that marks or above will be included in the shortlist. Shortlisted candidates are called for an Interview. Interview is conducted for 20 marks. Then based on the marks of examination+interview KPSC will publish a final rank list which consists of main list and supplementary lists(reservation categories). Based on the rotation rules and vacancies, eligible candidates will get an advice memo from KPSC and an appointment letter from the concerned department.

*Ranklist will be valid for at least 1 year from the date of publication or to a  maximum of 3 years.*

Examination Pattern:

From analyzing the syllabus of AE PWD/IRRIGATION and AE LSGD the expected Syllabus of AE Harbour will be:

  • Strength of materials and Structural Analysis – 10 marks
  • Fluid Mechanics and Water Resources Engineering – 10 marks
  • Estimation and Costing and Surveying – 10 marks
  • Building Technology and Materials and Construction Project Management – 20 marks
  • Environmental Engineering – 10 marks
  • Geotechnical Engineering – 10 marks
  •  

Transportation Engineering and Town Planning – 10 marks

CUT OFF!!

All aspirants will be very much eager to know what will be the probable cut off of this examination. The thing is it’s not at all possible to predict the exact cutoff since it depends on various aspects like reported  Vacancies, Future vacancies , Toughness of Question paper, Reservation Category, No of persons to be included in the list etc… But by analyzing the trends of previous AE examinations conducted by KPSC

Expected Cut off to get included in the main list is 50+ marks in Examination. Supplementary list’s cut off will be lesser than that of the main list

  • First thing you have to do is get accustomed with the syllabus of the examination.

  • Allocate more time for the preparation of  subjects which you feel are tough.
  • Along with studying theoretical portions you must practice and solve simple numerical questions also based on those topics.
  • Along with your preparation you must do mock tests and test series that will help you to solve questions fastly and adapt to competitive examinations.
  • Make short and brief notes covering important points of each topic. You can use that for revising these topics later and before examination.
  • Practice previous year AE papers along with overseer level question papers.
  • Get enough sleep and rest.
  • Don’t take too much stress.
