GATE 2025: Key Details for Civil Engineering Aspirants

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a prestigious examination that evaluates the knowledge and understanding of candidates in various engineering and science subjects. Important Points:

    1. Test Papers: GATE 2025 will be conducted for 30 subjects, also known as “test papers.”
    2. Exam Format: The examination will be a Computer Based Test (CBT).
    3. Question Types:
      • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs): Candidates choose the correct answer from four options.
      • Multiple Select Questions (MSQs): Candidates select one or more correct options out of four.
      • Numerical Answer Type (NAT): Candidates enter the answer using a virtual keypad.
    4. Virtual Calculator: Candidates will use an on-screen virtual calculator provided during the exam.
    5. Test Paper Combination: Candidates can appear in one or two test papers. The combination of two test papers must be selected from the predefined list.
    6. Exam Dates: GATE 2025 exams will be held on February 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025.
    7. Multiple Sessions: Some test papers may have multiple sessions, but candidates need to appear in only one session for the same paper.
    8. Schedule: The complete examination schedule will be available on the GATE 2025 website.

  • Application Process:
    • GOAPS opens: August 24, 2024
    • Regular online registration closes: September 26, 2024
    • Extended registration (with late fee) ends: October 7, 2024
  • Changes and Admit Cards:
    • Last date for changes (additional fee applies): November 6, 2024
    • Admit cards available for download: January 2, 2025
  • Exam Dates:
    • Forenoon session: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM (IST)
    • Afternoon session: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM (IST)
    • February 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025
  • Results and Score Cards:
    • Announcement of results: March 19, 2025
    • Free score card download: March 28 to May 31, 2025
    • Paid score card download (Rs. 500 per test paper): June 1 to December 31, 2025

Eligibility:

  • Candidates in the 3rd year or higher of any undergraduate degree program or those who have completed a government-approved degree program in Engineering are eligible for GATE 2025.
  • Qualifying Degree/Examination: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after B.Sc./Diploma in Engineering/Technology).
  • To apply for a civil engineering gate, you should have a degree in civil engineering or be pursuing one.

Application Fee:

  • Female/SC/ST/PwD* candidates:
    • Regular Period (August 24 to September 26, 2024): ₹900
    • Extended Period (September 27 to October 7, 2024): ₹1800
  • All other candidates (including foreign nationals):
    • Regular Period (August 24 to September 26, 2024): ₹1400
    • Extended Period (September 27 to October 7, 2024): ₹2300

Application Process

    • GATE 2025 provides an online interface for candidates to interact with the GATE administration.

    • Registration:
      • Candidates must register by providing the following details:
        • Full Name (as per the valid photo ID, which must be brought in original during the GATE 2025 examination)
        • Valid e-mail address
        • Mobile number
        • Password
      • All communications from the GATE offices will be sent to the registered e-mail address or mobile number.
      • Note: Only one person can register with one e-mail address.
    • After successful registration, candidates proceed to fill and submit the GATE 2025 application online.
  • Data Requirements for Filling the Application Form
  • While filling the online application form, candidates need the following information:
  1. Personal Information:
    • Name (must match the valid photo ID used during the exam)
    • Date of birth
    • Parents’ names and mobile numbers
  2. Address for Communication (including PIN code)
  3. Eligibility Degree Details
  4. College Name and Address (with PIN code)
  5. Choice of GATE Test Paper(s)
  6. Choice(s) of GATE Examination Cities
  7. Scanned Documents
  8. Net-Banking/Debit Card/Credit Card/UPI Details for fee payment.

Once the candidate clicks the “Submit and Proceed to Payment” button, no further changes to the application can be made.

Scanned Documents

  • High-quality image of candidate’s photograph- The maximum pixel resolution is 530 x 690 pixels and the minimum resolution is 200 x 260 pixels. The
    file size must be minimum of 5 kB and a maximum of 1 MB.
  • Good-quality image of candidate’s signature – File size MUST be within 5 kB (minimum) to 200 kB (maximum). 
  • Scanned copy of valid photo Identity Document (ID) (same ID must be carried to the examination hall)
  • Scanned copy of Category (SC/ST) certificate (if applicable) in PDF format
  • Scanned copy of PwD Certificate (if applicable) in PDF format
  • Scanned copy of Dyslexic Certificate (if applicable) in PDF format
